My Little Cowboy

By Richard J Sereday Jr

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

He has a funny little habit. He has always liked to wear his daddy's shoes. At first the shoes were almost as big as he was. It was the cutest thing, the first time he came into the room with his massive footwear, nearly lost in the size thirteen "Cowboys". He loved wearing them. The time come for him to get his own pair of "Cowboys". That's what he called them, his "Cowboys". He always wanted to wear his "Cowboys". As he out grew them he always had to have another pair. One day he outgrew this need for his "Cowboys". So many things in life change, seemingly out of our control. One day his mother outgrew her need for me. Changed forever would our relationship become through no fault of his , and yet he suffers along with myself, never more would our world be the same. He comes to see me on the weekends. He has fun with my computer playing games, and playing ping pong with me. As he became bored with the games, I have found that one thing will never change. His funny little habit. Trying to fill his daddy's shoes. More than once he has wound up in my boots, hats, and belts. They say, once a cowboy, always a cowboy. He will always be "My Little Cowboy".
