The Big Heart (long read)

. He always had a big heart. He could never wait for Christmas or a Birthday to give the gifts. He would always give them before the big day. He wanted to bring joy then and there. The gifts of love, the puppy too big, planes, trains, and automobiles. Always thinking about his loved ones. Always wanting to please them. Always wanting to spend his time with them. Always giving love, as well as receiving love. As time went by the love slowly seemed to be coming his way less often. This puzzled him. What was going on? Was this how love goes? Was this just a natural thing? Was this just the toll that the years had on passion, or was there something wrong? This was really worrying him. These feelings of love were what he lived for. Was it something that he had done, that he was not aware of? He tried to inquire yet he was unable to come up with an answer. This went on for some time. He was always trying to figure out what the problem was, without success. He wonder why the love was fading. It was very frustrating. After a time, he seemed to resent the fact that something that meant so much to him was slipping away. This effected his behavior in a strange way. He tried to put on a tough guy facade so people wouldn't take advantage of his kindness, and good nature. Beneath his rough and rugged exterior he was really a big softy. He had been taken advantage of before. At times, when he felt like he had been wronged, he would lash out and say things that he didn't really mean. Things that would really hurt, for along with his big heart he had a big temper, and a big mouth. He said some really stupid things to some of the people that meant the most to him. After his temper let him regain control, he realized what he said was wrong. It always made him feel so badly. He never wanted to hurt anyone. Especially the ones he loved, but they were usually the ones that his big mouth would attack. In the fit of anger his temper would convince him that he was justified in saying the kinds of thing he did. It was the devil whispering in one ear, and an angel whispering in the other. The devil up to his tricks. He fell for it time and time again when his temper had control of his soul. He was told that the devil tells us lies, that he comes like a thief in the night and steals all of our treasures. He didn't believe. He didn't listen. Now he stands alone with empty pockets, and an empty heart. He now has the strength to battle the devil and waits for his chance to win back all of the treasures he lost. Will he get the chance ? Does the devil play fair? Is the devil afraid to face this "Big Heart" now that he can not be tricked by the lies? The "Big Heart" would surely win given the chance. Will he get his chance?Once I had wonder filled days that were Christmases. Oh, how I long for another Written December 20th, 1996 © on Dec 25 2001 06:43 AM PST   0 • 10
