The Four Winds
Once upon a time there was a man, and a woman. There was a love, and there was a little piece of paper. A piece of paper for all the world to see. A piece of paper that told all the world of the love that was shared by two, two so very much in love. As the complexities of life took their toll, this piece of paper began to mean less and less to one. The other couldn't understand how the flames of love could grow so cold, but the facts didn't lie. The colder it got, the less the papers powers had on one, but not the other. The time came that the paper was replaced with another. A piece of paper that told the world that the original paper no longer meant what it once did. It told the world of a love that had died. This paper carried with it such great power, such great pain and such great sorrow, stealing away the life long hopes, and dreams from one, while serving to liberate the other, freeing them to chase their dreams of a new life, and a fresh start. This paper did what it was designed to do. It destroyed the bonds that had developed over many years. To lose ones dreams. To see them all slip between the finger tips with no power to keep this from happening, such a horrible thing to witness. Oh, the losses, and the pain that comes with these losses. What a heavy burden upon a heart. So much unbearable pain that had to be borne. I have accepted my losses, and learned to deal with the pain as best as I can. I can see a light upon the horizon and I seek it out with all my heart and soul. I know I deserve good from this life, and I wait for this good to come to me, as I know it will in time. I have had to travel down this long hard road, lonely, and alone. I know that it would be so much closer to reach my unknown destination, than to try to go back, and face all the pain of the past. Does she have any idea how badly she hurt me? I think not, or she could not ask me to come back to her. Some old pain from long ago. Written November 11th, 1996 © on Jan 18 2002 04:03 AM PST 0 • 10
