unattainable desire

By Richard J Sereday Jr

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I try so hard to understand while this big wheel that is our world keeps turning round and round. As it turns so fast, many are swept away, never to endure life’s grueling little trials. I try to understand why the old, live longer than their bodies are designed to function but in a pain so great. I try to understand why the innocence of child, must endure injustices of our sometimes so cruel world. I try to understand how hunger and poverty could prevail in such a fruitful world.  I try to understand how love can be born only to die all to soon. I see the things I want, objects of desire, never to be known or held in hand. You were one unattainable desire I desired, if only for a time, though this desire does remain somewhere deep within, but I have let it go, as I watched you go to where I do not know. As you stood there, before your steps took you from me, my eyes did feast upon your heavenly beauty, such a thing to behold, both without and within. The things I longed to hold, all held there in you. but the time, it never came, the emptiness, the longing, the desire unfulfilled, as you teased my heart and left me lonely and along, but once more. The dreams of we, never to be, never to see, never to hold, but in my mind. Written March 15th, 2002 © on Mar 15 2002 06:36 AM PST   0 • 10
