it seemed dark there all I could do was sit at the edge of the bed as she wept and watch her tears my elbows in my knees my shame and my face weighing heavy on the heels of my hands I waited hair clinging to her face her curls waves across the skin I had forgotten how to love I hurt what would become of her of me once the worst had passed she laughed not joy though the other laugh  her grace reminded me before she’d even left I was a fool I had forgotten how pretty she was my intolerance clouding long lost visions of our lives together when we were young or maybe not so long ago it had all seemed so right Written October 8th, 2001 © on Oct 08 2001 04:02 PM PST, Rick Merwin   0 • 8
