The Bench With A Bend

By Russ

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

See the fat man sitting on the benchHis big bag of candy beside him.You callously look as you walk on byIn your mind, he's offensive and gruesome. He sits in his world, alone and exhaustedGrasping for things that have taste. From your world you view a bench with a bend, below a fat man whose life is a waste. The fat man unwraps a cherished treatIn his mind a tear falls from his eye.At that same time you exhale a chuckleAs you tell yourself how soon he will die.The candy caresses the tongue of the fat manHis big body inflates with relief. You shake your head appalled and disgustedFat is just not your belief. As the sugar trickles down the throat of the fat manHis hand reaches yet for anotherYou pompously sneer from your slick frame of mindAs your eyes turn to something you'd rather. You see, the fat man's a nice man, who longs for a friendOne who sees past his compulsion. All you do is see a man who is fatWhile your life suffers ego implosion. The truth is that in a world which embodied Only you and the fat manThat bench with a bend would contain your best friendYou swallow that ...if you can.
