Bits of String

By safewrite

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I’ve built a life for myself Out of other’s used furniture, used clothes, used cars And left over compassion. ("Here - take this. I don’t want it.") Like a bird feathering its nest I have scavenged for bits of string and moss To pad my little nest. Oh Jesus, when you were here, And even now, Did you, do you get sick of getting leftovers? Kindness without a tax write-off is not convenient, you know. Bless those who give From unfettered hearts, Even if all they have to give Is a bit of string.
