A Simple Cord
Clamor comes outside the tavern, Dragons arrive from Fiery Cavern! People run and people shout, Arms flail and swords pulled out. Quivers are filled, arms bared, I get my book, some have stared, I race outside, murmuring fast, Freezing time with the spell I cast. I rose my arms, sliding down robes, Rereading the steps in ancient codes. "Shtoth," I whisper, then I cry, The dragons vanish when I blink my eye. What have I done, are they dead? What peers from the sky; a head! A ruby red dragon winks at me, "Thank you," she rumbles, "we're free!!" "Elf!" a man shouted from behind, "What have you done?" a voice ver' kind. I motioned to my old spellbook, With a word of praise came a look. "Thank you elf, you freed those creatures," The man grinned with unmistakable features. When he walked away, I glanced at his sword, "Excalibur" was embossed there, just in simple cord. Written March 31st, 2002 © on Mar 31 2002 01:01 AM PST, Jennifer 0 • 10
