Schoolgirl (Survivor Challenge Twelve)(w/pic)
By Shashama
While skipping through the park one day A little schoolgirl stopped to play She found some rocks and sticks and stones And set out to build structures unknown She built all day, from dawn to dark While sitting there, inside this park Once in a while, she’d stop and say “I am making good use of this day!” Minute by minute, hour by hour Telling the time off the tallest clock tower She worked without grievance; she worked without care ‘Till few minutes was all she had to spare And so she went home, quite pleased with her work A spring in her step, her hair held a perk She had labored until she was cold and red A picture of lovers, asleep on their bed They held one another with much care and grace He reached over and brushed the hair off her face This couple, somehow, was quite alive Perhaps because with love, this girl did strive Each knew the other, would cause them no harm So they slept safely, in each other’s arms The lover slept there, all through the night And melted away, with mornings first light Written April 10th, 2002 © on Apr 10 2002 02:33 PM PST, Shayla Carter 18 • 0 • 8
