The Last (challenge poem)
By Shashama
Challenge Description: Write a poem about the last unicorn, how you visualize him or her, where you see it, and what this means to you. (55 points) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whiter than the eye can even see And more beautiful than the mind can comprehend The last unicorn gallops through the fields She shimmers in the sun As she tosses her mane And as I see her I feel suddenly sad For I know that someday She too will be gone And I feel mad That humans were part Of her race's destruction And I am sad For I will never see something Quite so beautiful As the last unicorn But at the same time I feel hopeful For she has survived For so very long Through thick and through thin And she has stayed tall And glistening And beautiful Even through all the hard times And as I see her I swell with happiness For not everyone Gets the chance to see something As perfect as the unicorn And as she looks at me She seems to smile And tell me that everything Is going to be ok And I feel better About her and myself And I feel my legs Beging to lengthen And my nose stretch out And I fall to my hands and feet And my hair grows out And as the unicorn dies I become her Free to run And glisten in the sun And she smiles one last time And then dies But I am still happy Because I, As the last unicorn Get to pass the happiness Onto someone else Written February 17th, 2002 © on Feb 16 2002 04:47 PM PST, Shayla Carter 18 • 0 • 12
