The War
By Shashama
Never once did I cry Until I felt his kiss “Now don’t you worry ‘bout a thing Please don’t cry, dear sis.” And then he was gone… Just like that, and now I don’t know where he has gone Not where, not why, not how Oh my dear big brother Why was I so mean? You could get hurt, in the war Where enemies can be seen. The news came so much later Big brother safe from harm I realize now, there was no need For all of my alarm Rejoice! The war is over The soldiers welcomed back My brother hugged me tightly And then gave me some slack I said, “I love you brother.” He said, “I love you sis.” I don’t remember how long My parents hugged and kissed. I feel sorry for the families, That lost their only son And now that the war is over, It doesn’t matter that we won. The burden has been lifted The black bows all around The doves above are flying Never landing on the ground The sorrow, it still lingers Never going far The families that have lost, Are left with painful scars.
