But What May Come
By sidewinder
Workin' sixteen hours a day, Tryin' to make ends meet, But it ain't enough, Here she is a waitress in a diner, Through her memories she hears, Nothing wrong with hard work, I'm proud of you! Meanwhile she dreams of the city and all of its wonders, Someday I'll see it! And I'll paint, My art makes my soul, I can't spend my life doing this, Some people are practical, But some need to be free and follow their heart, I hope you understand what I'm about to do, Mom, You may call it reckless, But sometimes a soul has a calling, If I don't do this my spirit will whittle away, And you'll see the sadness in my heart, The next day... She left a note explaining what she had done, Her mother cried in tears... But in an understanding voice she whispers, I hope you find what you're looking for, You're braver than I was when I was your age, But you'll find out that happiness is in your heart, Not always.... in your fantasies, But what may come... You must follow your spirit June 27, 2000 Written January 12th, 2002 © on Jan 12 2002 06:54 AM PST, Billy E. Whitehorn other
