Daytrip

I woke up this morning, Cold... Decided that I'd give myself a change of scenery, At first I thought I'd go for a walk, Then later I changed my mind, Took my bike, As I thought to myself, Why walk when you can ride? From there I'd take a trip to the lake, Maybe I'd get lucky and see an eagle or two, It took me about 30 mins. or so to get where I was going, When I got there I ran into a cowboy with his horse and dog, He told me that the roads were muddier down farther, I told him that I didn't mind, At that point he wished me good luck, And I didn't mind, I needed to be out, Outside to enjoy Mother Nature, It was cold, windy, But that didn't matter, It was beautiful to be here, Here I was at Lake McPhee, The lake was down this January winter day, You could see the Dolores river flowing, The sandstone formations raging in their Majesty, You could also see the highway in the distance with all the traffic going to and fro, Like ants busying themselves, Going their own way, And just on the edge of the lake were a couple of ravens getting on with life, And there I was soaking it all in, I found myself a flat rock, Sat down and decided to have a snack, Gram crackers, Good and tasty! It got a little too cold, And so I started back, As I came back on this twisted and muddy path, In the distance I saw people on the lake, My curiosity was aroused, Five Navajos were fishing, I wondered to myself, were they catching anything? When I got there, They replied, Not much, Only one! Then I told them, Try using a marabou jig with a mealworm, or a piece of cheese, You might have better luck! I wished them luck and went on my way, As I went through the town of Dolores, I decided to stop at the park, There's a little place with a bench overlooking the river, When I got there I saw a Dad with a little girl and boy, And Grandmother was there too, They were playing along side of the river going through the ice and having a great time! Just another beautiful day in Colorado! Soulfood for the soul, And today I needed it. Jan. 13, 2002 Written January 14th, 2002 © on Jan 14 2002 03:20 AM PST, Billy E. Whitehorn    personal • other
