Fear Of Falling ( Challenge Piece)

Have you ever had one of those dreams... that somehow turned into a nightmare ? I have ! I'm being chased... So we go through the neighborhood, And here I am...                    running my ass off ! I cut through yards,                      Through peoples houses,                                               Through businesses, It doesn't matter,                  I'm determined not to get caught, I jump fences,                    Go through alleys, Somehow I wind up on a high building, And here they come again, The buildings are closer together & so I start jumping them, But the pursuers are relentless, So I get a little reckless, And I'm not paying attention how far the buildings are getting, And they are getting farther & farther apart, But to those who are chasing me it doesn't matter, It seems the faster I go, The faster they go, So we finally get to the last building, And I rush, I'm not sure of whether I can make it or not, But with those right behind I have no choice, I run & jump, But just as I do...                       I slip & fall, Here I am falling & falling & falling, Fortunately I wake up before I hit the bottom, And I wake up in a cold sweat, Scared out of my mind, I'm dead headed, So it takes a little bit to arouse myself, And then I realise it was only a dream, How this began was when I was 13 yrs old. My brother, sister, cousins & I had a swimming hole, 3 blocks from my house, Where I grew up in Marble Falls, Texas. On the swimming hole was an old tree which we had a diving platform about 20 ft. in the air, We used to climb up to the platform & jump into the swimming hole, One afternoon when we were swimming & diving I climbed up, Ready to dive, But this time the wind started up, It moved the limbs around & I froze, The only way they could get me off was for someone to climb up & push me off, My cousin Rocky had been chosen, Everyone tried to talk me down, But I was frozen fast, So Rocky climbed up & pushed me out, I hit belly first, And that's part of the reason I don't like moving high places, When my feet are solid I have no fear, But if the place where I'm standing moves, I want down ! Between that & the nightmares is why I can't stand moving high places. March 5, 2002 Written March 5th, 2002 © on Mar 05 2002 05:23 AM PST, Billy E. Whitehorn    0 • 18 • 10
