Freedom Taken For Granted

By sidewinder

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

There are those who claim that this country is not worth living in, They say that the government is corrupt, That the taxes are way too high, That capitalism is overrated, They fantasize about the simple things like living on an island, Farming and raising animals with no one looking over their shoulder, Sounds good! But I challenge them to leave this country, Spend six months in another country or a third world country, The things they take for granted won't be there, the freedoms that they enjoy may not exist somewhere else, Too much of the time all some can do is gripe! But they don't have the guts to do something about it, some scare me... I remember the cold war, I remember Vietnam, The hatred, The bitterness, I heard my uncles talking about World War Two, Some deny... that it never happened and they spray their prejudism, Their hate, Why? If I could... I would take those who reveal their distaste, But them on a different planet, And let them live on their own, So we that appreciate our differences won't have to hurt, America is a melting pot, We revel in what we can, Granted politicians will never ever be honest, But compared to other governments, I'll take ours anytime.
