The Moon's Reflection
As deep as the ocean his eyes look at me from behind his thick glasses His glare jutting into my shallow soul. Watching his every move, watching him glide down the embankment, on his motionless feet. Watching his face as he saw himself in the reflection off the pond As a child on a swing set in the back yard As an adolescent talking to the girl out on the street. As a teen-ager taking that same girl out on a date. As a twenty year old college student studying his ass off to make the grade As a twenty-one year old having his first legal drink As a twenty-eight year old watching his first born son's first smile As a thirty-five middle-aged man playing catch on the street with his son As a forty year old taking his son to his first school dance As a forty-six year old watching his son walk across the stage and receive his high school diploma Watching him I slowly come to realize that his was the face of true triumph and happiness The face of an old man looking back at him in the glare of the moon's glow is all I see Written January 11th, 2002 © on Jan 11 2002 07:16 AM PST 0 • 12
