Of Masks

"Beautiful is empty, Beautiful is free, Beautiful loves no1, Beautiful stripped me..." ~Creed We live our lives in masks, So the world will never see. They protect us as they cage us, I long to be me. And yet I fear rejection, I fear that they won't believe, I fear that they will forget, I fear that they will leave. What if I am not enough, And the world turns its head? All the beautiful people, In masks just like me. Maybe that will free us, For as we are torn, And made to be what we pretend, We always keep ourselves, Our masks we can mend. But if they hurt that person, Laying beneath the clay, Then we will watch in shock, As our masks crumble, And fall away. Blood will crease the lines, Drawn heavy around our eyes, And then the world will name you, And put you in a cage. Before only the mask, Was locked and bound to earth, But now you lay beside me, Together in this cage, Unable to pretend... True. Written November 22nd, 2001 © on Nov 22 2001 10:52 AM PST 0 • 1
