THE WILDERNESS

By sirjohnboy

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

THE HARMONY THAT ONCE WAS IS NO MORE BY REASON OF MAN'S HEART. IN SO MUCH, THE ICE SAITH,"WHITHER ARE THOU BECOME AS ME?" AND THE STONE SMITH,"WHERE WITH HAS THOU BECOME AS I?" FOR THE TREES SPEAK AN UNSEEMINGLY STRANGE LANGUAGE UNTO ME. NOT IN THE TIME BEFORE WHEN THEY BOASTED OF THEMSELVES. SO PLEASING WERE THEIR WORDS, AS THE FALLEN LEAVES FILL THE AIR WITH SUGAR-LIKE TASTE. THE FLOWERS SWAY TO AN UNHEARD MELODY. OH, IF THERE WERE EVER A STRING INSTRUMENT, OH, IF THERE WERE EVER A WIND INSTRUMENT THAT WOULD COMPARE BUT NOW, I AM LIKENED UNTO A MAN THAT STRONG DRINK HATH CONSUMED. FOR THE RIDER OF THAT TERRIBLE HORSE TOOK THAT WHICH WAS ONCE SUGAR AND MADE IT WORMWOOD. FOR THE WILDERNESS IS MADE BITTER, AND THE AIR IS HAUNTED WITH ABOMINATION. O'MAN, STAND FAST IN THY FAITH, WHATEVER THAT FAITH MAY BE. I SCREAM FROM THE TOPS OF MOUNTAINS, AND NOT ONE HEARS FOR REASONS OF THEIR OWN SCREAMS. MY FRIEND THE LIE WILL CHOKE ME IN MY UPGOINGS. FOR THE LIE WILL CAST A STUMBLING BLOCK BEFORE YOU. " I AM THE TRUTH AND I CANNOT BE HIDDEN." Written May 8th, 2001 © on May 08 2001 04:15 PM PST   0 • 1
