1989 (For Autotomy)
By Slicks78
Everyone else remembers the last year of loving themselves They all have their stories, their over sung self righteous glories 1989, didn't do too much to me Honestly, I can't remember many faces or special places MTV was at the so called height of it's infamy There was some bad rock, some good stuff too Parties and lovers that left me emotionally black and blue Who cares about 1989? I try but I forget what you look like Were you the first face who spoke deeply Of bad love and over rated poetry I can't quite wrap my mind around your image Though your voice speaks to me on the other end of the line You ask how I'm doing, hopefully well and fine You speak of that year, of 1989 1989, just another year to disappear inside I think I'm the only one who doesn't care How this rocker wore their hair Or what drugs you and your friends were on I can fry my brain on the plain insanity of life You tell me stories, of your divorced wife And two kids, the others you don't know about Who needs to hear more? I don't care Do I need to shout? Who cares about 1989? I try but I forget what you look like Were you the man with the child eyes Who told me lies and showed me art? Stole my heart, just to break it You tell me of the good old days Of parties and the 'love me haze' in the air 1989, most of us were only half way there I don't remember much, though some of us tried to stay in touch You call me on the phone, after over ten years past You expect your memory to last inside my tipsy mind? You were just another face in the memory flip book An average rating of "fine" And who really cares about 1989? I try, but I can't remember what you look likeDare filled Autotomy! It makes no sense to me what so ever. But here it is. ...For those of you that don't know, Autotomy dared me to write a poem about the line \ Written March 18th, 2002 © on Mar 17 2002 04:39 PM PST, Sharon 0 • 10
