Dream Eaters(On Music Row)

By Slicks78

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I was young and innocent, with the oh so moldable personality Easy to destroy, easy to cheat and steal Handed the pen and paper, sign my name on the deal It was all too late by the time the dates ran by They said they'd make my dreams come true They said they'd give me the stars, and my name in lights They are just dream eaters, soul stealers, They took away my rights They are the low life of music row I'd much rather they throw me to the wolves I would have survived much better I had so many years under my belt, For the number days I'd lived Thought I could handle it, thought they were no match for me Just pay up, name on the dotted line, I'll teach you what you need It's all good, it's all fine... Harsh words of criticism, "You're too tall...Not blonde, you don't have breasts like basketballs" And they are the ones that have the pictures on the wallls Of stars, "I made them who they are and I can make you a star" Believed what I heard, heard what I believed Forced to grow, now years gone by I know They are the Dream Eaters on music row How naive I was, how naive they all were I gave my money, my soul, my control over my life For a chance at my name in lights My words on paper, over the sound weaves Don't believe false promises, You can do it on your own Better off alone... Nashville, has it's fill of Dream eaters Soul stealers, smooth talking dealers Music row, The good, the bad, the ugly I saw it all, found out the hard way I'm better off today than I was then Wouldn't wish the Dream Eaters on anyone What's done has been done, I'm on my way Just one more day to conquer, with the right people Who taught me, not to trust the Dream eaters Not to believe the Dream eaters, Down on music row They'll sell your soul to devil, but keep the left overs for themselves There are still flowers up in UA Tower, keep them dear, keep them near They will win over those Dream eaters, Dream Eaters on music rowAnyone who has ever had a music dream, don't believe the dream eaters. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. But take to heart, there are some good people who can help you out there. Just don't learn the way I did.
