You came to me that night, a look of fear A pang of fright distant in your eyes Though we both know, you did it to yourself "Can I stay with you for awhile?" You forced a smile and choked a tear When it had been more than a year Since you'd smiled at me, truly I heard the scream, I knew who started it Numb, I did not want to be part of it It was the same as any other night A yell, a scream, a fight In room I stayed, loud music played The door creaked open I dreaded the first word Would I speak? No, I would go unheard So you spoke, and I did not trust a single word Leave, you told him, leave It was him you say, him And shouted, when you knew I did not believe Turn the light out, you said "It burns my eyes, and hurts my head" When it scares me to be in darkness with you You're the monster of my nightmares, it's true Words you spoke, of how it happend Did you honestly think, I would believe Such lies? Probably, I am not suprised Hush, I said hush, it's better if you speak no more You jumped, you cried, you yelled and asked "Why must you continue our war?" Why? I am not the one, I said Who treats me like dirt, Then expects to me comfort your head "We're too alike you know, it's really starting to show" You said.. Alike? You think? Perhaps, your blood runs through my vains Perhaps your hair, a brown I have Perhaps your eyes, sea blue, I own But I am not like you, believe what you want I thought.. "Yes" I said instead, look what I got You screamed, you cried I tried to ignore, my own feelings You asked "Do you love me?" I nodded, said "yes", I lied I held you that night, despite my own rage At you, for locking me in your painful cage I held you that night, so you would think We're alright I held you, I held you Even though, you hurt me in ways Deeper than what I let show I held you, what did I get?
