To those whom it may concern
By Soulslulluby
To those whom it may concern, Don’t pretend to be my friend, Don’t give me your fake smiles, Or your false conversation. I’m aware of what is said. I hear when I’m not around. Stop pretending to be nice, I know you are not my friend. You judged me at the first sight, You didn’t bother with me, You figured I was different, But I’m just the same as you. I have a heart and feelings, They get hurt just like yours do. A chance was all I asked for; I didn’t even get that. One look then you turned away. Am I that different from you? You don’t even seem to care, That you shunned me unfairly. You keep to your little group. You shut out all the different. Don’t pretend to be so nice, I hear the jokes and the laughs, I know I am not your friend. You don’t invite me places, You make small talk in the hall, But words do not mean a thing. Action speaks louder than words; Your actions speak the loudest, They tell me to go away. Just stop pretending with me. It’s o.k. not to be nice, I know that I am different. I don’t judge those around me, I don’t shut out the lonely, I don’t laugh behind your back, I do not tell vicious lies. Even though you do not like me, I’m kind and say the nice things. I would like you as my friend, Even though you do not like me. I think you could be real nice, I think I could learn from you, And you could learn from me too. We all come from different worlds, We grew up with different lives. How hard is it to take time? To get to know a neighbor? Share a small meal together? Help each other with homework? Invite someone to go out, Even for half an hour? See if you share an interest. Get to know someone different. See then if it is worth it To laugh behind someone’s back, To giggle at the mean jokes, Or to make up the rumors. Try to think of how’d you feel If someone talked about you; If you heard people giggle When you slowly walked away. Those people just want a friend So please just stop pretending; Make your actions speak louder Take a chance on someone new. Written February 22nd, 2002 © on Feb 21 2002 06:56 PM PST 18 • 0 • 12
