BOX A China box, A box from China, A Chinese box. In blue and white, the blue glaze running in stripes, decorated with white lotus blossom, barrel - shaped, rounded, Small bumps in a pattern, like Braille, In lines and triangles. A cutaway lid, With one circle on the top and two on the bottom. The box belonged to my grandfather, Wei Ping Fong, Many years ago he came here, From China, his homeland. This was his box. As children we were never allowed near it. Grandfather also had an old brown photograph of Wei Ping Wei, his Mother. She looked very small and plump. Almost barrel - shaped, like the jar. You could see that She had bound feet, tiny, painful. After the death of Grandfather we found out why we were never allowed to touch the box. It contained the ashes of our Great - Grandmother.
