Heart's Echoes
By steele
My heart echoes yours and yours mine, blending into one pure, continuous, sweet tone that is our love for each other. Images and feelings echo in my mind, until one image comes clear, your image, and one feeling remains, my for love for you. When I feel your sweet presence in my mind, is it me, or does the bond between us let me hear the echo of your thoughts of me? How can I show you all my love when I can only grasp echoes of it, when to try and grasp it all at once would utterly consume me? I miss you even when you leave the room and you are too often so much farther away. I wonder do your thoughts echo my own? How can I show you that when you are gone, the room echoes the last traces of your presence, your smile, and your laugh? When I see you, I feel so much love, and so whole. I feel the echoes of a thousand lifetimes spent loving and being loved, with you. I look into your eyes, endlessly falling. I feel our desire echoing around us until we are held for an eternal instant as one, complete. And each time is more, for it is its own, yet filled with the echoes of every moment before, and adding its own to those that will follow. And as we are the echoes of those who came before, the lives and the loves, so will we add our own to others yet to come. Some echoes collide, become mere noise, or nothing, leaving emptiness behind. Others become more and are transformed into joy. Some echoes are short-lived and fade to silence when their heart is gone. Others live in memory, cherished for the pure note they were. Some are constantly renewed and live as their heart lives, the same yet different, enduring a lifetime, or a hundred more. We will create a lifetime of echoes, as our hearts beat and our souls echo back to each other all the love they are given. We are filled with the echoes of all that we were, and may yet be, all the joy and sorrow, every turning that brought us here. Our lives are filled with echoes of the need to share, to be together, to turn and see the other not ahead or behind, but beside. Our hearts’ echoes have brought us joy where once was emptiness, and woken our sleeping souls to love. These echoes cannot be silenced or undone. Separate, our hearts echo longing, together they echo eternity. Written May 1st, 2000 © on Oct 16 2001 09:53 PM PST 18 • 0 • 8
