My Pride
By stoggie
What's in a flag? a nice design, some pretty colours. Oh, and it flows nicely in the wind, this is what helps us define our pride? Why should it's image make me proud? All it is...simply synthetic, along with the feeling it creates. Helping to divide mankind. What's in an anthem? a paid composer, some pretty notes. Giving us reasons to be happy, reminding us of the wars we've won. Why should it's sound make me proud? all it is...repetative noise. Soldiers shooting guns to help demonstrate. Helping to divide mankind. This land, supposidly different. Which can no longer even be defined by culture, is somehow better than the rest. The rest with the pretty flags, composed anthems... And can no longer be defined by culture. Now, this is of no complaint, but what differs our nation from the next? Pride seems to be a way to sell souls, pride seems to be a way to start wars, and all understood by a song, a picture. But my mind, my heart... Won't buy into the love of a different coloured dirt. Oh our pride... The killer of mankind... Written April 11th, 2002 © on Apr 11 2002 08:32 AM PST 0 • 9
