the old woman sits alone on the bench, feeding the birds with crumbs she's tired, she's sore, and sleepy, she's spoken to by a park bum "what happened to the world?" the bum asks. "where did things go so bad?" the bum walked away to go find some food and the old woman became quite sad she thought about things she'd wanted to do when she was younger and healthy she never thought her back would give out, her eyesight would go, and she'd get a bad knee she thought about places she'd wanted to go and people she'd wanted to meet the beautiful dresses she'd some day be buying the golden shoes on her feet she thought of her love life, how little it was, the man she had always wanted to marry she thought of how she let him walk away for that, she had always been sorry she thought of the kids that she would never have it was too late for that now she wished that she could start things again she wished that were possible somehow she stopped feeding the birds as they pecked at her crumbs she got up and walked away the news of her suicide was all over town in the local paper the next day Written December 28th, 2001 © on Dec 28 2001 03:48 AM PST 0 • 1
