The Shell
By susanne
I overheard a converstion in which the physical beauty of one female was being diligently and deeply contrasted to the "plain jane" appearance of another, and not too kindly I might add. Perhaps we have all been guilty of this at one time or another. Anyway these thoughts came to mind> Inner speculation on the outer mask of man Leads to rumination of a shell that can not stand Examination of the self in a superficial pose Will not insight offer from the depths which we arose The mask that you are wearing may change from day to day And like a pretty pearly pink seashell the tide may wash away Now the mask may offer clues as to how we live our life But beware... for worldly ways... may cast only stereotypes Uniquely human nature questions why and what wherefore But wise our we who view the shell as matter nothing more... For time doth take its toll on our suit of flesh and bones And eventually it wears away... the shell that housed the soul. Written March 10th, 2002 © on Mar 10 2002 01:48 AM PST 0 • 10
