Sinking
You were always so close by I never had reason to miss you. And now, I hear your voice only on crackling phone lines when you call to give me "news". Nothing looks the same now. The pavement has a sticky gooey property to it that causes me to sink deeper with each step into our memories. The sky has a vastness to it now. It reaches across the distance between us to form a cloudshape of you. A thundercloud that vibrates with torrential rain. This city is much too large. The distance it puts between us too great. And I think of you often, when my mind roams and I forget to live in the present. Written September 21st, 2001 © on Sep 21 2001 06:05 AM PST 0 • 8
