Lone Star(A Challenge Poem)
'Twas in early March Underneath a purple-tinted sky, Daffodils decked the meadow, making a lovely path Under the Elm tree saw I the figure of a colt thathered there, A beautiful little colt with the gentlest brown eye, With golden-honey sun-tossed hair. There was something strange about the colt, I thought As I walked towards it to catch a closer glimpse Might its beautiful body be caught Stabbed by a branch or the lance of some wicked nymph? In his forhead I could see Grew a branch from a lowly Sycomore tree.. Or was the poor pony stabbed with a lance, Trodding along on his journey As I drew near, catching a better glance.. This was no ordinary colt tied there... But a beautiful unicorn standing next to me.. On bended knee I stood in awe and wonder Never had I seen such beauty before.. I petted him gently and carressed his silky mane On his neck he wore A golden necklace, Lone Star was his name The last of an ancient breed of ancient lore Now, I thought, how rare... It must be a sign from the heavens revealing my life's destiny, My heart believed then and there, In the power of love, fairy-tales and the answers to life's mysteries.. For standing before me was a creature so rare, I thought only exsisted in fairy-tales and fantasies. Yet fate proved me by far How wrong and faithless I've been, This encounter I'll remember forever..my rondezvous with Lone Star Mary Gonzalez Written February 17th, 2002 © on Feb 17 2002 02:05 PM PST, Mary Aris 0 • 13
