LONGING

Longing longer till I can no longerHow much longer can this absence lingerLacking though a heart is wholeness singleNon-existent mem’ries past resembleSmiling through the tearful future tremblingOn and on repeat the bitter ramblingIntermittent feelings colored amberStir the ashes, fan and feed the embersEmblematic of this never endingBending till the breaking point and furtherFarther till the pain is but a but a botherLike no other out of reach it hoversLovers lost in efforts unrequitedRevel in the sorrow so exquisiteTo excuse self pity till tomorrowSolace borrow, bartered for a promiseFounded on a premise loose and shiftingDrifter set adrift by self delusionStay confusion, find a quiet centerSent to places where the heart can slumberSundered from a paralyzing numbnessNumbered are the days till I no longerLong for what it is that I am missingWishing for a stillness in the waitingHateful only of my lack of patiencePainted verse replace the siren wrong andLong no more but know that life will answer . . .First 7 lines were written in 1985.
