Birding
By TractorMan
With Nat’l Geographic book in hand And binoculars all cleaned and ready We start off into a forest of pine My best hiking boots to keep me steady Anticipation is mounting I’m really pysched Looking for Warblers, Flickers Nuthatches and Shrikes Looking and listening With my ear to the ground Bluebirds and Vireos All around me sound A visual birding feast This fine day of Summer There goes a mountain-capped Chickadee Followed by a broad-tailed Hummer Around a woodland lake And through a light mist Raptors and ducks Now marked on my checklist Over a hundred species Both heard and seen An alarm clock awakens me It was only a dream I shouldn’t be surprised Because when birding I go I usually see pigeons And maybe a crow Written September 25th, 2001 © on Sep 25 2001 03:44 AM PST 0 • 14
