My Drive Home

By TractorMan

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The day is over no longer to wait Out the door and through the gate Crank up the car and off I go To the warmest place this man knows Out on the road a casual drive The sun is shining it’s great to be alive Around a curve and straight ahead A few miles and a left turn is where I’m lead Birds and dogs and an antelope or two Dotted along the roadway in a makeshift zoo Stopping for a school bus along the way Parents meeting them just to be safe Checking the mail at the top of my hill All is well there are no bills Opening the gate at the bottom of the drive Dogs greet me excitedly as I arrive Up to the house they run beside And out on the porch my lovely bride A smile and a kiss to greet me in love Hugs for the kids and thanks to God above Written September 20th, 2001 © on Sep 20 2001 04:01 AM PST   0 • 10
