'Chain'

By WarriorPrincess

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I was there, I watched the hate, and when it ended I tested fate. I married that man...that man I so hated, then I sat there... I sat there and waited. I tested my strength, put up with the pain, repeating the cycle, I continued the chain... Lump in my throat I watched my world spin, mocking me with his triumphant grin. This battle I'd fought so hard to win... had found my heart and torn its way in, forcing me back...back to that awful day, the man my mother so loved took her life away. Now looking back at that awful age, I feel her sorrow... feel his rage. Trying for years to turn the page, I've been stuck inside a cold dark cage. Years pass, I put on her shoes... Saying goodbye to him, she heals my heart---heals the bruise. Finally putting her soul to rest, I pray she has peace- pray her spirit is blessed...
