A Foolish Hope

By Wesley Storer

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Many have hoped for a miracle To have their potential discovered By some kind philanthropist Who had his potential discovered By a wealthy important person And now likes to help others Educators cannot do their job Overwhelmed by large classes Teaching names dates and places. If you're a jock you're in luck But what good are sports You can't eat them wear them Or live in them They can't keep you warm You say they reveal character "Give the people fun and games They will not attend to the Affairs of State--Caesar" Counter productive and inflationary Driving prices higher at stores Giving special incentives to minorities Solitciting their unwavering support Creating privileged classes in schools The criminal gangs of America Have all donned athletic uniforms The will of the majority? I don't believe it!!!!!!!! You are what you do when it counts Sports has nothing to do with itNature is indifferent to man. Even the Darwinians must admit, that in the world of survival of the fitttest, sports has nothing to do with it. It is simply kill or be killed, eat or sarve. Sports are a luxury no civilized society can afford. Written April 8th, 2002 © on Apr 08 2002 07:31 AM PST   0 • 1
