Forever Stands the Main
There by the thundering tidal main Where the sea sprayed breakers reign The sailing spirit forever remains With its blood kin tie to salty brine Where pelicans gulls and albatross call Where sweeps of the lighthouse fall And the peace of the ocean's lull Can be turned to furious sudden squall Like jealous lovers at a seaman's ball There in the land of Winslow Homer Pilgrim Fathers and John Paul Jones Where swells and swales of aqua tones Relentlessly call the sailor home Forever meshing with the sailing kind With jib and beam and mermaid dreams Rubies and Emeralds set in golden gleam And buried treasure by tropic streams There where the tide thunders the main Where the sea sprayed breakers reign The sailor it claims forever remainsI visited Bar Harbor, Maine last Summer, and it was absolutely one of the best experiences of my life. I went swimming at Sand Beach, the coldest beach in North America, where they filmed the love scene from "Cider House Rules", and I saw "Thunder Hole", in Acadia National Park, and I saw the Royal Miss Delmar, the whale watching ship, and all the old wood frame buildings of that great little town. It is very expensive though, and justifiably so! Its name was originally "Eden, Maine", but they changed it so it would serve the purpose of a caveat.
