Twenty Years

By winter jazz

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Twenty years in existenceYet what have I learnt?Twenty revolutions around the sunYet what have I done?Twenty candles on the cakeYet what have I seen? Twenty summers have I sweatedYet what have I become?A slave to others’ mockeryA yearning for their loveA face that’s paintedTo hide the selfA smile that’s plastic and fakeA life that’s lived To please others’ fanciesA mind without it’s ownA heart that’s forced To betray its soulAnd a soul shattered and torn. That’s the world I lived inA world where true self is tabooIs this the life that I want to leadWhere hurt and betrayal rules?Youth and strength is what I’ve gotAnd change is a tool I haveAll I need is courage to standCourage to take a step.Fight is a word that I’ll always useYield is a word abolishedTruth is a direction I seek to headAnd may success be my journey.- 14 Nov 1998 Written October 21st, 2001 © on Oct 21 2001 12:58 AM PST   0 • 1
