~What Does One Do?~

By WolfsWhisper

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

What does one do when they no longer can smell The sweet scents of nature in her glory? When all who dare smell are suffocated by the stench of toxic fumes? What does one do when they no longer can taste The fruits of the efforts of their working? When all they can taste is the pain of the hardships they’ve suffered? What does one do when they no longer can feel Their heart bursting with the joys and pleasures of love? When all they can feel is the heat of burning rage? What does one do when they no longer want to be touched The skin of another searing their flesh with each caress? When all they want is freedom from arms that wish to hold? What does one do when they no longer can see The light that radiates from deep in the soul? When all they can see is the silken darkness as it smothers the flame? What does one do when they no longer can say The things that snake through their minds? When all sound is lost in the void of space and time? What does one do when they no longer can hear The voice of spirit that guides them through life? When all of their questions are answered only by deafening silence? ...What does one do…?I don't know what this piece does for anyone who reads it, but I know as I sat here and wrote each of these words it really made me think....what does one do?...
