A Bed of Roses
By bdgrey
A bed of roses awaits your return. Yellow, white and even red, are the colors you will see. I have also covered the walls with carnations and tulips. Purple, pink and blue surround our bedroom. A dinner beneath the stars and moon by the lake down the hill sits quiet and still for us to move down to. This is an endeavor for expression of love, for now we are one year further. The path to our house is now lit with lanterns, and trees now look as if stars were put in them. All that must be done now is wait for glorious arrival. I peer down the road waiting for headlights, but as time goes by, they do not come. Then silence is broken by a ringing. A deafening ringing that can only mean one thing. I look at you now as you lay in your bed, but not the bed of our home, the bed of a hospital. The driver was drunk and you without luck, were struck from the side. You are awake and know who I am, this I am thankful for another chance. You must soon leave for surgery's progress, so "see you later", and my plan's put to action. I have been given word of surgery's success, and breath much relief, yet cry from my soul. Upon your return, to the hospital bed, you are greeted with surprise, and tears in your eyes. A bed of roses lays where once it was white. The walls are now colorful, such as a rainbow in light. Happy Anniversary, though a day late. I love you so much, beyond Heaven's gate.
