An Abyss

By bdgrey

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

She fell into an abyss where there is no end. A blackness of sorrow and mystified torment. Jagged rocks with edges like razors, line the confines of this vortex of damnation, as she falls uncontrollably for eternities sake. No longer will the light of a fresh Spring morning, wake her from a peaceful slumber of glorious dreams. For those dreams now have died along with her soul, and now survive only within a mind at a loss for sanity. No memories prevail as she has forgotten all that was well, and as the moments tick by and the tunnel slowly contracts, she falls further away from all that she had held back. Once crisp days in Autumn filled her aching lungs with air, yet now all that is left is a damp world, festering in despair. The man she had loved with all her inspired little heart, died so suddenly without ever saying goodbye. No warning of irrevocable events as his lungs refused to breath, and no last exchanging of love and adieu. The cancer had eaten away all that kept him there, and when it was done, all that was left was a blank stare. She held him close never letting go with trembling hands, refusing to believe it would all too soon be over. As he took in one final, futile breath, her lips quivered, as his soul became free. Her head lay on his chest as she prayed for a beat, yet no thump came, and he was finally put to rest. Not one goodbye was said for their closure. All that was said was "I love you", and then it was over. Yet somewhere within her quickly fading mind, a light has appeared as she realizes this fact. He had not said goodbye for it would not be forever, their love would live on and they would soon carry on. He had not said goodbye, because he knew it was not true. Death may seperate for a short period of time, but love lives on through barriers with pride. Written February 26th, 2002 © on Feb 25 2002 04:18 PM PST   0 • 8
