An Unfrequented Flower
By bdgrey
Every year a solitary flower blooms. It rises no more than a few inches, yet its beauty is unparalleled. The blossom is blue with a lining of sunlight yellow. There is no other flower quite like it, for it is unique and alone. Once a year it blooms and that is all. I came across it one clear day, one of perfection and tranquility. I was merely 18 at the time, yet every year I return to it. This flower subsists in a meadow, hidden by a path never travelled, high in the mountains of Colorado. I fear that one day upon my return, it will no longer be there. Yet it always blossoms in clockwork fashion. There was never anything to compare to its seamless beauty. That is until I met you. I still return to that spot to gaze at its splendor and polish. Yet now I have something to come home to. Something that never fades, and never becomes old. One day we will be put to rest up there, next to that solitary flower. Upon that day it will no longer be alone, upon that day we will be eternal, and upon that day it will endlessly bloom. Much as my love for you. Written October 28th, 2001 © on Oct 28 2001 02:54 PM PST 0 • 8
