The Christmas Tree
By bdgrey
The snow fell quite heavily this year, covering the seed hiding in fear.It burrowed itself deep into the soil, protected from the thick white blanket.Spring soon came and the snow melted away, and where once was a seed now stood a baby tree. It's mother above had fallen in the wind,so now it's alone to face the new world. The sun shone brightly providing it light,The rain too fell ensuring its life.Little by little it grew taller and stronger,so that when the next winter came, the tree was ready for whatever may come.Due to its youth, it swayed in the harsh breeze, and the ice though prolific, could not weigh down the tree. The years passed by slowly of minor concern to the tree, and with each passing year it added another ring. The cycle of seasons continued on as before, and the tree entered maturity as its roots stretched furtherNo longer weak, yet remaining quite meek, the tree still grew to reach enormous heights.Years turned decades and decades to centuries,as the tree refused to buckle, with loving memory of its mother. The trunk was so wide, a road could run through it,and its canopy was thick and deep, looming over the land with benevolence. Then one day some strange visitors came, disturbing the peace, acting with bane. All around his siblings fell victim,to these new strangers with power of God.He was the tallest and oldest by far,so he was spared, but why was the question. His siblings he saw, were broken and separate, and layed together to form their new houses. There was nothing to do, for all had been lost, yet something was happening amid winter frost. The invaders approached him with the same tools before, surrounding his base invading his space.A loud noise erupted from way down below, and all that was felt was pain in his throat.Excruciating pain as his skin had been pierced, and the blade moved deeper as his life began to fade.Under his weight of tons of pure life, the spectacular tree fell under power of knife. His life was over and not of natural cause, these horrible invaders had brought magical saws. His soul still intact, he was still aware. They moved him down south where it was warmer, and stood him upright dipping him in water. The water refreshed him, though a far cry from home, and he knew this was temporary, with torture of artificial living. What next preceded humiliated the tree,as they hung things from every branch that was seen. When they were done with ornamental approach, they then put wires around that shone like the stars. The torture however did not end there,as atop his mast they placed a silver star that was bare. The snow there fell too, but warmer than before,as crowds of people drew nearer and gazed at his glory. The shame began to subside as he realized his purpose. He was a Christmas tree that inspired all hope, when his presence was needed the most.To those that vanquished on September 11.We miss you and love you all. God bless. This is basically the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. Though I have never seen it, I would really love to. It would be awesome to that tree up in New York, especially this year.
