The Day the World Stood Still
By bdgrey
I awoke one morning with a bitter chill, one in which the world around was still. The clock had stopped, with a blank face, and lint in the air stopped, dead in space. The leaves outside that should have fallen, lay suspended without any sense of movement. In great excitement I threw the covers off my bed, and on their way down to the cold wood floor, they ceased to move, right in thin air. I picked up the pen that lay on my desk, held it above my head, and dropped it. It too refused to fall. Quite perplexed I walked around, trying to figure out what was happening now. With my mind on fire I quickly got dressed, and exited my house fully distressed. The world was empty, absent of life, cars were parked and everything was silent. I continued to walk in the direction of the park, guided only by a voice in my heart. There the pond was quiet and smooth as glass, no ducks to feed, and no people to pass. The clouds above hung motionless in the sky, and no breeze blew by to brush my skin. I continued this journey hoping discover, what was happening to put my mind at rest. And then all of a sudden, as I came upon a bend in the path, there she was, the girl from my dreams. We stood there staring at each other, not sure of what all this meant. Then guided by the same faint voice, I walked towards her, as my heart began to fill. Something was happening that I could not explain, it all made sense now, this strange day. I looked into her eyes, and she into mine, the world had stopped, so that we would find each other. I reached for her hand feeling its warmth, and she pulled me in for a deep hug. This is a day locked in time for true love to prevail, so that we may live in eternity. Written December 19th, 2001 © on Dec 18 2001 04:13 PM PST 0 • 8
