The Gallows
By bdgrey
I stand a victim of someone elses crime, atop the gallows waiting with eager torment. The rope tied round is coarse, and scratches against my fragile, soft neck. The noose hangs loosely, layed across my back, I feel its pressure trying to push me down. My arms are tied up by aide of barb wire, cutting my wrists, with a steady stream of hot blood. My ankles too feel the prick of cold iron, digging into the already shattered bone. My face is blindfolded which is the only comfort, so I cannot look into their hate-filled eyes. And they shall not be given the gratification, of looking into the soul of the innocent. Shouts from all directions plague my beating ears, and solid objects, thrown, strike me everywhere. When will the hatch finally be opened, so that I may no longer have to feel humiliation. My heart beats feverishly trying to get the most in, before it stops from oxygen depletion. My life too, flashes before my swollen eyes, and I know that I have lived without a single stolen lie. I have reached peace within myself, so I am prepared to die, despite my innocence. The moments pass on with lengthening stride, and I just stand there hoping for an end. Then the Undertaker, in his cruel, harsh voice, says, "May the guilty now suffer". One final glimpse is all that I need, as the blindfold falls off, there I see, my wife, and my child, so that the truth may live on. The floor beneath me drops out from under, and I fall downward praying to never stop. But without warning, the noose has now tightened, and a loud crack in my ears, is all I can hear. The whole world turns red, as my head feels as if it's about to explode. My body gives a shutter, as I fight for my last breath, but it is too late, and my body goes limp. I die, but my legacy lives on.This is a tale similar to that of "Braveheart". This man I speak of is a hero to his people. I will write a prequel eventually, so more will be explained then. Hopefully this will be fun. Written December 17th, 2001 © on Dec 16 2001 03:44 PM PST 0 • 1
