The Veteran
By bdgrey
There is this man who lives without a home. He is a Veteran of war and recieved no reward, for risking his life and losing his wife. His hair was once trimly cut and soft as silk, but now it has digressed, to a warn out shag welcome mat. His lips were once desired by pretty young girls, but now they are hidden by his facial curl. The hands were caloused in the great war, but now they tell the tale of his life long struggle. All that he wears is from the local shelter, once a year he may go and shop for something used. They have become ragged and are ripped at the seams, dirt forever cached, with faded and depressed color. He has no more shoes and his feet are now swollen, permanently painful, with arthritic ankles. The teeth that were once so white, are shattered, discolored, with plagueing cavities. Yet in his eyes their is still a spark, something so deep, penetrating to the heart. His faith is not gone, and spirit's not lost, despite all that's happened in his life. He is educated beyond that of most scholars, and kindness in his heart never shall part. The love he once knew, left this is true, but only because it was under God's power. One day again, in the nearing future, he will meet her again, and touch her soft skin. That is the spark, that remains in his heart, and his eyes so blue, know this as a truth.Judge not lest ye be judged first. Everyone has a story that comes from the heart, so don't judge by outward appearance. And never lose faith, for there is always an answer. Also I thought I would add that this is an idea for one of my movies/novels. I thought of this story about 5 years ago, so hopefully one day, it will become a reality. I've also decided to write a few of my novel/movie ideas into poetry form, just to get it out, and see how it feels. This felt great. Written December 12th, 2001 © on Dec 11 2001 04:25 PM PST 0 • 12
