We Never Said Goodbye

I lay myself down next to the love of my life, knowing this will be the last time. Her breathing has quickened, and her heart is now fading, so I must make the most of this before she passes. I look into her velvet green eyes, remembering every day that we have spent together, never apart. Her love too flows from her heart with ease, and we hold each other tightly wanting eternity. I embrace her now pale and thin body, but she is still more beautiful than anything I've seen. Wrapping my legs around her shivering waist, determined not to let her go and protecting her soul. We stare into each other's eyes taking in each precious moment, and locking it away within the depth's of our hearts. Her voice is now a quieted whisper, and her vision is blurry, as she can barely see my face. For the first time in my life, I know of our everlasting love. How it will never fail and always go on, and how it will lead us back together again. I hold her not only with the strength of my touch, but with something deeper than I never knew I had. Her body becomes weaker, and she must fight to stay awake, using every ounce of her strength to make the moment last. Sensing the end I kiss her cold forehead, and she then kisses my lips with hers thin and white. "I love you my love", she whispers so faintly, "I love so much", I say quivering my lips. "I'll see you later my love, and always know that I will always love you", are her final words before she falls under. "I'll see you later, and I love you too", is my only reply. We kiss each other one final time, and she falls asleep, barely breathing. Within my soul I know that our love will not die, so I fall asleep holding her praying she'll be still alive. But I know she will not and so my heart cries. "I love you so much, please do not leave." I fall asleep crying fearing the morning. When I awake with the sun in the sky, I look beside me, and she is no longer alive. She died in her sleep without saying goodbye, and that's the only thing that keeps me going in life. When two people love each other with all that they have, and they live their lives without any regrets, that is true love and this I have met. Just remember that we never once said goodbye. Love is the most powerful ally that two people can have. Written December 25th, 2001 © on Dec 24 2001 05:02 PM PST   0 • 1
