Sea Poem
By BigDadda
The waves are crashing and smashing Still waiting there for me, for once you belong to the sea She'll never set you free. I remember her subtle beginnings, Soft waves on a moonlit night, Carrying me far from my origins While sampling her ancient delights, That had captured so many before. And as you slowly sail from the shore Gently behind you, she closes the door. I left her on the quay Waving hands and tear filled eyes, Shouting golden promises that would never come to be. "My Darling" she cried"Your life is here with me!, Never give it to that other one, The Sea." I was filled by the moment and blown by the winds, Not knowing how soon I would have to wait on her whims. She gave me foreign places With a myriad of different faces. So much to see and feel While all the time my wounds healed. Till I'd forgotten what I'd left behind, Spurred on by her relentless pace The other one was sent from mind, I couldn't even remember her face. Then as if to show her great strength She took me back to my journey's start. Saying go on leave me, if you have the heart, But remember upon you, I've put my mark, Try something else, if that's what you desire. Try if you can, to put out my fire. But it can never the same be For a man who has worked upon the sea. Written October 29th, 2001 © on Oct 29 2001 02:18 PM PST 0 • 10
