Contrasting Worlds

Future…---------------------------------I dream of a future with a loving family,Settling down and having a secure job.---------------------------------I dream of future where clean water is accessible,And surplus food available to fill my aching stomach.---------------------------------Wealth…---------------------------------I pray to win the lottery and collect millions,Buy a yacht and sail the seas in luxury.---------------------------------I pray that the only doctor in our village staysBut how can we pay him when we ourselves are penniless?---------------------------------Annoyance…---------------------------------I imagine a day of uninterrupted television,Or roads with limitless speed restrictions.---------------------------------I imagine a day of peace and silence,The echo of gunfire seems forever to resound. ---------------------------------Pride…---------------------------------I hope to score a goal in the soccer match tomorrow,And lead my team to an inspirational victory.---------------------------------I hope to find some wood so that my baby will not freeze,How can a caring young mother let her sweet joy die of fear.---------------------------------Hope…---------------------------------I wish that one day I will be remembered for my kindness,And my caring nature for those less fortunate than myself.---------------------------------I wish that one day my suffering will be understood by those unknowing,And those who say they “care”, don't express their concern in thoughts and wordsBut in action and combat for what they truly believe is fair.---------------------------------Remember we are ALL equals, so why do we live in a world of such distinct contrast.I hope this made sense, I was trying to, as the title suggests, highlight the contrast we have within humanity. We seem to be subdivided between, rich and poor fortunate and unfortunate, and have forgotten one of the commandments which relates to caring for your neighbor. These people are our neighbors!! If only we could do more. Written November 23rd, 2001 © on Nov 23 2001 12:57 AM PST 0 • 9
