Allison

ALLISON The rains came down, but we didn’t drown, Although it got quite high; The Little White Oak, from its banks did float, And wash us clean up to the thigh. I watched it come raging, it was quite engaging, Much better than watching TV; While rubbing my eyes, I watched it arise, So quickly I couldn’t believe. At two in the morning, thought I better give warning, And roused all from their sleep; “We’ve got to make a move, get up and groove, For the water is a-getting’ deep!” So let me explain, we went out in the rain, And moved cars and other stuff around; Although we got wet, we changed our set, And got our things to higher ground. Our bodies got grimy, dirty and slimy, Wetter than we’ve ever been; But you don’t have to ask, we finished our task, And retired to our comfortable den. But, even in our repose, the waters still rose, Even higher than we had planned; The cars got wet, as did a living room set, It was a dismal scene that we scanned. From apartments on high, we watched with a sigh, As the storm deluged all of our stuff; I hope it’s understood, we did the best we could, But Lady Allison gave to us a rebuff. Now it’s the next day, and the water’s gone away, And the damage we have surveyed; While running about, we dried things out, And some of our fears have allayed. With our cunning, we got two cars running, And now we’re hoping for three; The damage is not as bad, as we thought we had, And now we’re feeling some glee. But guess what stout, we better watch out, For the lady still is a-roaming; Allison’s her name, and she rules the game, For tonight she might come back foaming. We’ll have to take our chances, as Allison dances, And leaves us without a single clue; The balls in her court, so stay in your fort, For there’s not a thing we can do! copyright2001 Brazos Mason Written June 9th, 2001 © on Jun 09 2001 11:22 AM PST, Brazos Mason 0 • 10
