That Which Doesn't Kill Us

By Buzby

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Yesterday my best friend slit her wrists. She took her own life and I never even knew she was in pain. I saw her every day, and I never knew. What does that tell you about me? She was only twenty-one. So full of life and energy, it seemed. Vivacious. That was a word for Julie. Bubbly. That was another Depressed. Suicidal. Unbalanced. Unhappy. They were words for someone else - I thought. Funny how you can be so close to someone And not know them at all “That which doesn’t kill us only makes us stronger” She was fond of saying that She said she’d heard it in a Megadeth song I forget which one. I forget a lot of the things she said But I remember that. Written October 5th, 2001 © on Oct 04 2001 11:56 PM PST   0 • 1
