If I Should Ever Love You

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

If I should ever love you And please don’t think I do But if I did, would you love me And be forever true Would you hold me close and tell me That you’ll always be my love And swear it by the angels And all the stars above. When we dance to the song of life If all our dreams come true Would we always share our happiness Our sorrows and troubles, too Would I cherish each and every moment The way that I do now The time with you so sweet I sometimes wonder how In all the world you’re most dear The one I feel so close The one who makes my life worthwhile The one who loves me most So if I should ever love you And really know for sure That it’s you who loves me With a love that’s true and pure Could we go on forever Through life’s ups and downs Treasuring each and every moment The smiles and the frowns Would I always want to see the look Of happiness on your face When we see each other And share a warm embrace Would your touch always excite me And make me want you more A kiss, a look, a moment alone With the one that I adore I must not really love you For if I did, you know I’d never ask these questions I’d know which way to go The days go by, the nights are long Whenever you’re not around But that doesn’t mean I love you Too many fears abound But maybe you could love me Maybe hold me dear The way that I could love you And always want you near Let’s just pretend that we’re in love And see how it makes us feel Just try it on for size It’s really no big deal We’ll share our lives just for awhile And see what happens next Well, maybe we could do that It wont be too complex We’ll act as though we love each other We’ll do all the common things We wont know for sure of course But we can see what our ‘love’ brings And if someday we should  fall apart As lovers often do Would you say let’s try once more After all that we’d been through For if I should ever love you And please don’t think I do Do you think that you could love me As much as I love you By Dee Garner October 19, 2000Written October 19th, 2000 © on Oct 31 2001 03:08 PM PST, Dee Garner   love
